Robots that fix each other or how Elon Musk unveiled Terminators

At Tesla’s 2023 Investor Day in Texas, Elon Musk showcased the latest version of the humanoid robot called Optimus, which can now walk, pick up and carry items, and perform basic tasks. The robot was first revealed to the public at Tesla’s AI Day in September of the previous year, where Musk introduced his vision of a humanoid robot designed to perform human-like tasks in the real world.

During the presentation, Musk hinted at his grand plans for the robot’s rollout, saying that the ratio of AI-powered humanoid robots to humans could one day “be greater than one to one.” He even suggested that one day Tesla’s robot business could be greater than its automotive business, which is currently its primary source of revenue.

The latest version of Optimus was shown to attendees in a pre-recorded video, displaying several of the robots walking and performing various maintenance tasks on each other. Musk said,

“It’s obviously not doing parkour, but it is walking around, and we have multiple copies, I suppose, of Optimus.”

The scenes of the robot repairing other robots in a room filled with spare arms reminded many viewers of the Terminator movies.
